A Puppy 4U

Puppy 4U

Good morning :)  My card today features the absolutely adorable Puppy in Boot, by Mitzi at Aurora Wings. She very graciously offers this as a freebie on her Facebook group, where there is so much inspiration!!  I don’t kn ow about you, but when I think of Aurora Wings, my brain automatically goes to beautiful floral images, mermaids, and of course, Sprites!! Mitzi’s animals are so freakin’ adorable, that they should certainly be given the limelight!!  So, that’s why I chose this pup for the card!  I colored him up with my SN markers and did some light chalking in the background.  I had a bunch of co-ordinating scraps of DP that were perfect for this card, so I started layering away :)  I was quite excited, because the band/belt/?? embellishment that I’ve been saving for all these years made a perfect little doggie collar embellie :)  Of course every dog collar needs a tag, so I die cut one from mirror card, then “engraved” the message on to it.  I balanced everything out with some silver adhesive baubles.

Bluebell

Bluebell

Hi there!! I made this card for a recent Facebook challenge at Aurora Wings, and haven’t had time to blog it until now!! I really don’t know what people are talking about when they refer to the lazy days of summer, because it seems as if I’m running non stop!! I used on of the adorable sprite images that Mitzi is famous for: Bluebell Sprite.  I colored the little sweetie with my SN markers, then shaded the background with my Prismacolor pencils.  I’ve had this giant doily (or a good part of it) kicking around for quite a long time, and figured that this was just the card to use (a piece of) it on.  I cut the fence on my Cricut, then inked the edges with some Distress Inks. I’ve really been trying to use up stash that’s been neglected and/or forgotten, and as I went through things, I found these pretty pop up butterfly stickers.  I added a few silver adhesive dots and mounted everything on silver mirri card :)

Mermaid Wishes

Mermaid Wishes

Mermaid WishesHi there!! I’m celebrating Canada Day by hiding in my apartment, crafting, while about 60,000 people party about a half a block away!!  I colored this image Ribbon Mermaid, from Aurora Wings, during the week at work….I love that I can do stuff like that at work, when it’s slow, because I certainly can’t seem to find time any other way!!  I took different color groupings of SN markers, and my trusty white and sparkle gel pens each day, and finally got this beauty finished!  I think the guys at work would look if I started dragging my other tools to work, so I assembled this at home :)  I die cut various foliage pieces, using Tim Holtz, Cottage Cuts and Savvy dies, and a sea horse with a Spellbinders die.  I love the look of  cheesecloth on a mermaid card, so draped a strip around the image.  I finished of with some shells cut with a Marianne die, a sentiment that was pre cut, and a smattering of pearls.  I love the colors on this card, they remind me of a summers day at the beach :)

Let Your Dreams Take Flight

Dance With You Dreams

Let Your Dreams Take FlightHi there!! I got an order for a Graduation card for a young lady who’s an avid dancer.  I knew exactly which image I wanted to use – Stardancer, from Aurora Wings was perfect :) The colors of mint, light blue and bright pink were requested, so I set to work coloring with my Prismacolors. I added accents with a glitter gel pen. I used my pencils to make a swirl background, to go with the movement in the image.  With such a gorgeous image, I wanted to keep it as the focal point, by not overdoing the rest of the card with patterns or embellishments. I settled on mint and bright pink glitter paper, using a Frantic Stamper die to make an inlaid die cut border.  The sentiment “let your dreams take flight” went so well with the image, and fit the Grad celebration perfectly.

Floral Mask

Mask of Flowers

Floral MaskI fell in love with this image from Aurora Wings a while back, and finally got around to coloring it :)  The image is called Floral Masquerade, and I colored it with my SN markers, all the while holding my breath, because of the detail! I was so happy with the finished product, that I wanted to have a very simple card design, so the image could truly shine through.  I took 3 pieces of different gray and black card stock, and tore frames into them, then layered them over the image.  A big antique gold bow and some metal embellishments were all this fabulous image needed :)

Birthday Elegance

Twisted Elegance

Birthday EleganceHi there :) Today I have my first twisted easel card!! I don’t believe I haven’t made one before, as I love the look!  I used the stunning Camellia image from Aurora Wings, and colored it in my all time favorite color combination. I just purchased the lattice die, part of a set – Butterfly and Lattice – from Sizzix. I can tell that this die will be getting a lot of use!! I dug through my flowers, and didn’t have any that were the “right” shade of red, so I touched a few up with my markers :)  I arranged the flowers over a die cut fluorish by Cheery Lynn.  I wasn’t sure what to do for a sentiment, but came across the “enjoy” in my stash, and paired it up with the Happy Birthday, that I inherited from my mom’s stash when she died….the set that it comes from is probably close to 50 years old!!

Steampunk box lid

Steampunk Box

Steampunk box 1

Well, I went through my craft room and found such a load of alterable items, that I decided to actually DO something with one of them!! I recently won the Steampunk Owl image from Aurora Wings, so figured it would be a great focal point for a steampunk trinket box.  The image is different that the ones I usually use from Aurora Wings, and I don’t do steampunk often, so this was a bit of a challenge for me.  I colored the image with my SN markers, adding a few metallic touches with gel pen; then I fussy cut it out.  I got realllllly messy preparing the box, painting, adding some pumice sand texture, stamping some metallic clock faces, then I dug out some metal accents, distressed them.  When everything was in place, the image seemed a bit bright, so I added a few drops of metallic black paint to my matte finish Mod Podge, and slathered it on.  I dabbed some copper and gold pigment ink on the high points of the pumice sand, then gave it another coat of plain Mod Podge to seal everything.  I love the rustic look of this box….I just wish that the photos showed all the detail better!

Pansy Dreamer

Pansy Fantasy

Pansy Dreamer

This image is the image that got me hooked on Aurora Wings images.  All of Mitzi’s images are fabulous, but this one just knocked me out, because it has the gorgeous pansies arranged around the beautiful woman.  Even given the fact that I loooove this image, I have owned it for quite some time now, and have been too scared to do anything with it, in case I “wrecked” it.  My brain didn’t take it a step further and get to the step of how I could print it again, and retry…..so there it sat!  Well, I finally got up the nerve, grabbed my Prismacolor pencils, and went to it.  I was seriously holding my breath for about  80% of the time that I was coloring!! I couldn’t decide on which pansy color combo to use, so I tried to do as many different ones as possible :)  I highlighted the bubbles and her eyes with some white gel pen.  After curling the corners a bit, I set to assembling the back drop of the card.  I embossed some Coordinations Kraft core paper with a Cuttlebug script embossing folder, and embossed a strip of vellum with a spellbinders folder.  I had a strip of the taupe lace, which I wove some gold cording through.  I used a Tonic Studio loopy fern leaf die, a Tattered Lace butterfly die, and some sprigs of blue flower things.  It needed a little something else, so I got out some frosted white adhesive gems, and colored them with my SN markers to look a bit more like the bubbles in the picture….then added a dot of white gel pen, because I’m just picky like that lol.  I’m thrilled with this card, and really think that I did this fabulous image justice. And I think it’s one that I’ll just keep!!

Spring's Here

Spring’s Here

Hi there!  Spring is here, in Saskatchewan, Canada!! It’s Easter weekend, and I’m enjoying some peace and quiet….and getting my head back where it belongs after the mother of all funks in the last few weeks!! I was feeling so down, for no reason that I can come up with.  A stinkin’ attitude that even spread to my crafting!! I was prepared to sell all of my craft supplies and say Good-Bye to the whole shebang.  BUT….I walked into my craft room, looked around, and could not fathom where to begin photographing all that STUFF, never mind pricing, and delivering/mailing etc.  Laziness won out on that!! It didn’t cure the funk though, and where I’m usually quite active online with the cardmaking community, I slunk back into my little corner of misery.  I do not like feeling like this.  I’m old enough and smart enough to know the tools to get out of it….but it was quite a climb out of this hole!  I colored FOR MYSELF, and did a few cards up.  I knew I was out of the funk when I placed a few more online orders for craft supplies LOL.  Here is one of the cards I did.

Spring's Here

I used the fabulous Sakura Sprite by Aurora Wings.   The spring weather and the upcoming Easter holiday inspired me to use (the dreaded) soft pastel shades, as I colored her up with my SN markers.  After fussy cutting the image out, I layered the card up with a square die cut doily, some distressed DP and pink cardstock….all stitched up with my machine, and some ribbon. I embellished the card with die cut branches, a small tag for the sentiment, a fluffy bow, centered with a wooden flower, pearl sprays and some pearl embossing powder that I sprinkled on.  This card, (and a whole lot of Hot X Buns) have got me out of my funk and into the Easter spirit :)

Lovely Lilacs

Lovely Lilacs

Lovely LilacsGood morning :)  Here is a card I made with a beautiful lilac image from Aurora Wings.  Aurora Wings Challenge is currently having a sketch challenge, based on this sketch:

AW challenge 46 sketch

I colored the image up with Prismacolors, then layered it up with a doily.  For the background, I stamped some script with white ink, and a swirly corner stamp was used with silver ink in the corner. Pieces of DP, matted with Silver mirror card were used for the other background elements.  I added ribbon, eyelet lace and some silver blings to finish the card according to the sketch guidelines.
