Pansy Sprite

Pansy Sprite

Pansy SpriteHi there!! I figured it just wouldn’t be right for me to NOT enter a card into the Aurora Wings challenge. At. The. Last. Minute.  It’s becoming some kind of a tradition for me or something, lol.  For this card, I used the amazing Pansy Sprite, that Mitzi so generously gave as a freebie for the duration of the challenge.  Pansies are my absolute all time favorite flower, hands down.  To the extent that I have a pansy tatoo, and nicknamed my mother in law Pansy…..  So I had to do something with this wonderful sprite!!  I was thinking of doing her up in some really different pansy colors, and spent quite a bit of time looking through pictures of pansy patches that I’ve had, but, instead, went with a very traditional color scheme.  The big challenge for me was to do this in pastel colors…..I don’t do pastels well….I find them hard to color, hard to wear, and always think that there should be a bit more “oomph” when I look at them.  I think I pulled it off here, with my Prismacolor pencils….I colored her at work, and only took a select few pencils with me so I wouldn’t be tempted to amp things up a bit :)  After cutting the image out with a die/fussy cutting, and matting it in a slightly deeper purple, I embossed a mint green piece of card stock (mint….me??).  I took the pansy edge from a piece of card stock that I had laying around, so I could balance the card a bit by edging the image’s opposing corner.  A piece of pale mauve polka dot paper is peeking out from below some pastel yellow lace.  The butterflies are stickers, that I stuck to white paper, then fussy cut out.  After attaching the bow, and the tag with the stamped sentiment, I felt that all the sparkle was out of balance some how (the butterflies are sparkly, but the pic doesn’t show that well).  I had a dream about my great niece, who was insisting that I call her “Miss Sparkle Pants”…..so that inspired me to add a bit of sparkle to the sprite’s bloomers :)  Hope you like my venture into the “light” side :)

Here are the challenges that I would like to enter my card in:

Aurora Wings Challenge – #45 Sprite Delight IV

Butterfly Challenge – #74 “M” is for Mint Green and “E” is for Edges

Creative Inspirations - #270 ATG

Through the Craft Room Door - ATG for the week of March 14

Card Mania – #90 Pastel Colors

  1. Oh my goodness. This is such a delightful post. I love your beautiful pastel colouring. The pansy border is perfect and those little butterflies are gorgeous. Thankyou for fluttering into the butterfly garden. Hugs Mrs A.

  2. Love your card AND your post, Susan! So many things I can relate to (like the last minute entry, for example) and I can’t stop giggling about Miss Sparkle Pants. Looks quite fetching on your beautifully colored Pansy Sprite and I love how you’ve carried that sparkle throughout your design. FABULOUS work! I dare say you’ve come to peace with pastels, as well. Thanks so much for joining our Sprite Delight IV challenge (again!) at Aurora Wings. xxD
