Birthday Moths

Birthday in Black and White

Birthday Moths

Hi there!! My card today features another one of Ching Chou Kuik’s beautiful images - Come Softly.  It’s been a long time since I did anything in the “no-lines” technique, so I figured I’d have a go with this one :)  I colored it in a monochrome palette with my SN markers, and added a few glitter highlights.  I looked high, low and sideways for the “right” background paper, and just wasn’t happy with any of my thousands and thousands of design sheets!! So, I took the moth from the image and made my own :)  Some black velvet flourishes with silver touches, black and white flowers that i stacked and centered with rhinestone brads, a sparkly ribbon bow, and a stamped sentiment finish this card off :)

Steampunk Dragonfly

Steampunk Dragonfly

Steampunk Dragonfly

Good morning!! I’ve had a few days off work, and am trying to catch up with my blogging – of course, I’m trying to catch up with everything else, so it’s a lot slower going than it should be!!  The card I have here features the image Steampunk Dragonfly by Ching-Chou Kuik.  It’s been some time since I’ve done anything steampunk, because, frankly, it scares me!! Lol.  I colored the image with my Prismacolor pencils, adding some metallic accents on the gears and bolts of her outfit, and drawing in the crackly background.  After die/fussy cutting the image out, I matted it on a piece that I’d cut with some edging scissors to look like a big cog.  The  background uses a technique that I learned in grade 2 (I think…..it was a long time ago, as I’m turning 50 in a few weeks!)  We made pencil holders for our Dads for Fathers Day, using masking tape to cover the item…then it was a can, now its a piece of cereal box….then inking it to give it a faux leather look.  I’m allowed to use heat guns now, so I sprinkled some embossing powders on this to give it even more texture.  I added the chain pieces, some metal roses, and the gears to finish this off.  Here is a picture of the original Father’s Day project!

Reach for the Stars

Mermaid Moon

Hi there!! I have another card featuring another gorgeous image from Ching Chou Kuik, Moon Journey <3

Reach for the Stars

I tried something new this time, and dug out my watercolor pencils that I bought at the dollar store!! I only used 9 of them (10, if you count the teeny bit of red on the lips and cheeks). I’m pretty happy with how it turned out :) I added a bit of sparkly blue gel pen to accent the strings of gems.  I had a die cut frame kicking around with a rather ugly pattern on it, but it was the right size, so I flipped it over, and did some emboss resist work in it :) I printed up the sentiment, and added a bunch of blue rhinestone embellishments to tie in with the image.

Mermaid Fantasy

Mermaid Fantasy

Mermaid FantasyI simply love mermaids, and Ching Chou Kuiks are some of my all time favorites!! So, with the challenge theme over at the Ching Chou Kuik Inspiration and Challenge Blog being Under the Sea, I just HAD to do another card up :)  For this card, I used Embrace the Ocean.  I was inspired by the cool tones of the color picture of this image in the store, so gave it a go to see what I could come up with.  I used my Prismacolor pencils for this, in tones of blue, purples and greys and enhanced the pearls with tiny bits of Stickles.  I’m not happy with how the colors show up on my picture, but it was taken in natural light, and I kept snapping away until my battery died :)  Anyways….I found a pretty DP for the background, and tore some fiber-y paper up to serve as a back drop for the image.  I cut the anchor and the waves with my Cricut, and topped the waves with Stickles as well.  I had the adhesive lace border kicking around in my stash for ages.  I tried a bunch of different colored ribbon, but figured that navy would be the best….and of course I didn’t have one speck of navy ribbon!!  I rummaged through my closet, and scored!! You know those ribbons on the inside of women’s tops??? Some very cool colors in there….and navy was the coolest color for today!!  Silver roses, some mauve and white flowers with blue pearl centres, glitzy mesh….stuff….from my flower arranging days (oh my, I have soooo much stuff that isn’t even related to cardmaking!!), and a silver seashell charm finished my card off just the way I wanted :)

Message In A Bottle

Message In A Bottle

Message In A BottleHi there, and Happy Easter!! This is another card that I colored up in my “funk”…. I used one of the fabulous images from one of my very favorite artists, Ching Chou Kuik.  I really wish there were more hours in a day to work with her images!!! This image is Far Away Messages, and I love the thoughtful look on the mermaid’s face.  I colored her up with my SN markers, opting for a blue skin tone, rather than the normal people colored skin :)  I did the sky with my Prismacolor pencils.  When I was digging around my craft room, preparing to organize and sell all my stuff (too much stuff, and I lazy), I found some of the Smooch Accent Inks that I’ve have for forever and forgot about.  I used the pearl one to accent the strings of pearls.  For the background, I used an old map from an old encyclopedia (which is another story in itself, how I so recklessly crafted away a $1800 set of antique encyclopedias!), and tore and inked the edges with Distress Inks.  I added a strip of cheesecloth, and some sand textured paper at the bottom, before adding the image.  I used a number of dies, from Tim Holtz, Marianne, and Spellbinders, for the seaweed, shells and seahorse.  I got the Smooch inks out to give the shells a nice shimmer.  I have a ton of pearl strings, and this seemed to be the perfect card to string them on :)  I was drawn to the bottle in the image, so dug up a tiny bottle, took some parchment paper and stamped a tiny sentiment “Wishing You Happiness”, and tied it to the card with some twine.  I’m sooooo happy with this card…..not to mention thrilled that I decided to continue on with this crafting journey and not throw in the towel :)

Spring Orchids

Spring Orchids

I’m on a posting roll, lately! :)  This card was made with the gorgeous image, Orchid in Spring, by Ching Chou Kuik. I absolutely adore this (and all CCK’s) image! I colored her with my SN markers, then used this sketch

sketch maart

From Cheerful Sketches, as my layout guide.  I’m venturing into the dreaded world of pastel colors, again. I’m going to beat this “fear” of pale colors yet!! I used some papers from a DCWV stack, some for the background, and some for the die cut shape on the corner of the image; a doily, some die cut flourishes, and butterflies cut with my Cricut. I mounted the image on a tag shape, that I punched the edge and top with.  A simple sentiment was stamped along the top, then some strips of bling added. After assembling the card, but before adhering the butterflies, it became apparent that my love of glitter was taking over, so I added glitter all over the butterflies :) I love the effect!!

Dark Wishes

Dark Wishes

Hi there!! I tried something different with this card.  Ching Chou Kuik’s Facebook challenge for March is Everyone’s a Picasso, where we are to be inspired by one of Picasso’s many paintings. A challenge it was!! Ching Chou’s images are very un-Picasso-y, but you should see some of the creations that members have come up with!!  I used Woman With Crow as my inspiration:

woman-with-a-crow

I printed the image, Raven Soul,  on some dark blue card stock, then got to work with my Prismacolor pencils.  It was so hard to see!!  I tried to stick with the colors as best as I could, with the very white face, fading into an orangey color, then the black feathers of the bird.  Once I had it all colored, I was a bit stumped as to the layout…..until I came across this sketch:

at Sketch Saturday! I edged everything with gold ink, then die cut some black banners.  I smuged some ink and doodled some branches on the backing paper, then stamped and embossed a sentiment.  A few gold studs on the banner tied everything together :)

Birthday Swing

Swing Into Spring

HiBirthday Swing there! Today, I have a card made with Ching Chou Kuik‘s Gentle As A Breeze. There is a challenge in the Kit and Clowder Facebook Group where participants use this image to make a project.  I actually made a card with this stamp previously, but learned that wine does not go well with coloring! I wasn’t happy with it, so I got my SN markers out and made this one :) With the colors of the image being so bright, I opted for leaving the rest of the card quite subdued. Some embossed paper for the background, a Poopy Stamps birthday die,  pearls, and a few white bows was all this spring-like card needed :) I hope you like it!!
