Sail Away

Ahoy There!!

Sail AwayGood morning!!! It’s Sunday, and that means that it’s time for another challenge over at Come And Get It Challenges :)  We have a super fun theme this week, and it’s “Nautical”.  Our generous sponsor for the challenge is Papernest Dolls.

Our Badge

I was given Sailor Owen to work with for my DT project, and chose to go with the traditional red, white and navy color scheme.  After coloring the image with my SN markers, I cut a cloud shaped top, then inked in some clouds for a background.  I have been hoarding this nautical paper for a while, and this was the perfect card to use it on!! I just received this Memory Box die in the mail…talk about good timing!!  I layered it with a bit of cheesecloth, then grabbed on of the wooden anchor embellishments that I snagged at Michael’s in the $1.50 bins :)

Congrat Feathers

Feather Congrats

Congrat FeathersI REALLY stepped out of my comfort zone with this card!! Not only does it not have a colored stamp on it, but it is CAS!!! This was partly out of necessity, as my printer was out of ink, and I wanted to get a card into a few challenges.  I recently purchased some new dies….the scribble is a Tim Holtz die, the feathers are some extremely inexpensive no name dies that I found on Amazon, and the sentiment is Tattered Lace .  I threw a few sequins on, and thought it really didn’t need anything else.  I really like the clean and classy look to this, and it will be nice to have a few wedding cards on hand for the summer :)

Pansy Fantasy

Pansy Dreamer

This image is the image that got me hooked on Aurora Wings images.  All of Mitzi’s images are fabulous, but this one just knocked me out, because it has the gorgeous pansies arranged around the beautiful woman.  Even given the fact that I loooove this image, I have owned it for quite some time now, and have been too scared to do anything with it, in case I “wrecked” it.  My brain didn’t take it a step further and get to the step of how I could print it again, and retry…..so there it sat!  Well, I finally got up the nerve, grabbed my Prismacolor pencils, and went to it.  I was seriously holding my breath for about  80% of the time that I was coloring!! I couldn’t decide on which pansy color combo to use, so I tried to do as many different ones as possible :)  I highlighted the bubbles and her eyes with some white gel pen.  After curling the corners a bit, I set to assembling the back drop of the card.  I embossed some Coordinations Kraft core paper with a Cuttlebug script embossing folder, and embossed a strip of vellum with a spellbinders folder.  I had a strip of the taupe lace, which I wove some gold cording through.  I used a Tonic Studio loopy fern leaf die, a Tattered Lace butterfly die, and some sprigs of blue flower things.  It needed a little something else, so I got out some frosted white adhesive gems, and colored them with my SN markers to look a bit more like the bubbles in the picture….then added a dot of white gel pen, because I’m just picky like that lol.  I’m thrilled with this card, and really think that I did this fabulous image justice. And I think it’s one that I’ll just keep!!

Easter Crocus

Happy Easter

Easter Crocus

Here is the one and only “real” Easter card that I made this year.  It was a DT make over at Come and Get It Challenges, but my blog was acting up, and not letting me on….and my brain was functioning about as well!!  For that challenge, we were kindly sponsored by Polkadoodles, which is where I got this adorable image from, Crocus, from the Darling Bud collection.  I colored her up with my SN markers, then added more shading and definition with my Prismacolor pencils.  I lightly stenciled a background in with Distress Inks.  I had a brain lapse with the edge….was thinking I could  just cut an edge border with the die I was using…nope, lol.  I pieced the edge in, and quite like the result of my boo boo!! Tied a big fluffy bow, and added the sentiment and a bunch of pearl accents to finish this card off.  Another pastel project…..what is coming over me??

Message In A Bottle

Message In A Bottle

Message In A BottleHi there, and Happy Easter!! This is another card that I colored up in my “funk”…. I used one of the fabulous images from one of my very favorite artists, Ching Chou Kuik.  I really wish there were more hours in a day to work with her images!!! This image is Far Away Messages, and I love the thoughtful look on the mermaid’s face.  I colored her up with my SN markers, opting for a blue skin tone, rather than the normal people colored skin :)  I did the sky with my Prismacolor pencils.  When I was digging around my craft room, preparing to organize and sell all my stuff (too much stuff, and I lazy), I found some of the Smooch Accent Inks that I’ve have for forever and forgot about.  I used the pearl one to accent the strings of pearls.  For the background, I used an old map from an old encyclopedia (which is another story in itself, how I so recklessly crafted away a $1800 set of antique encyclopedias!), and tore and inked the edges with Distress Inks.  I added a strip of cheesecloth, and some sand textured paper at the bottom, before adding the image.  I used a number of dies, from Tim Holtz, Marianne, and Spellbinders, for the seaweed, shells and seahorse.  I got the Smooch inks out to give the shells a nice shimmer.  I have a ton of pearl strings, and this seemed to be the perfect card to string them on :)  I was drawn to the bottle in the image, so dug up a tiny bottle, took some parchment paper and stamped a tiny sentiment “Wishing You Happiness”, and tied it to the card with some twine.  I’m sooooo happy with this card…..not to mention thrilled that I decided to continue on with this crafting journey and not throw in the towel :)

Spring's Here

Spring’s Here

Hi there!  Spring is here, in Saskatchewan, Canada!! It’s Easter weekend, and I’m enjoying some peace and quiet….and getting my head back where it belongs after the mother of all funks in the last few weeks!! I was feeling so down, for no reason that I can come up with.  A stinkin’ attitude that even spread to my crafting!! I was prepared to sell all of my craft supplies and say Good-Bye to the whole shebang.  BUT….I walked into my craft room, looked around, and could not fathom where to begin photographing all that STUFF, never mind pricing, and delivering/mailing etc.  Laziness won out on that!! It didn’t cure the funk though, and where I’m usually quite active online with the cardmaking community, I slunk back into my little corner of misery.  I do not like feeling like this.  I’m old enough and smart enough to know the tools to get out of it….but it was quite a climb out of this hole!  I colored FOR MYSELF, and did a few cards up.  I knew I was out of the funk when I placed a few more online orders for craft supplies LOL.  Here is one of the cards I did.

Spring's Here

I used the fabulous Sakura Sprite by Aurora Wings.   The spring weather and the upcoming Easter holiday inspired me to use (the dreaded) soft pastel shades, as I colored her up with my SN markers.  After fussy cutting the image out, I layered the card up with a square die cut doily, some distressed DP and pink cardstock….all stitched up with my machine, and some ribbon. I embellished the card with die cut branches, a small tag for the sentiment, a fluffy bow, centered with a wooden flower, pearl sprays and some pearl embossing powder that I sprinkled on.  This card, (and a whole lot of Hot X Buns) have got me out of my funk and into the Easter spirit :)

Color Your World

Color Your World

Color Your WorldHello!! This card was made for the new ATG challenge at Creative Fingers.  Our sponsor this time is

https://www.etsy.com/shop/oddballartco

Oddball Art, and the team has outdone themselves with their creations!!

I used image #126 for my card, and colored the sweetie with my SN markers.  I used some individual alphabet stamps for the sentiment, to give it more of a casual, playful feel.  The background is a piece of cute star paper that I had in my stash..I added a strip of blue, one of the tons of strips that I have from trimming 12 x 12″ paper down to make envelopes!  I used another strip of yellow, to die cut the stars with a Frantic Stamper border die. I snipped the border into a few pieces, to make it ‘work’.  I added a few baubles that I made from melting plastic pony beads, and this card was done :)

Spring Orchids

I’m on a posting roll, lately! :)  This card was made with the gorgeous image, Orchid in Spring, by Ching Chou Kuik. I absolutely adore this (and all CCK’s) image! I colored her with my SN markers, then used this sketch

sketch maart

From Cheerful Sketches, as my layout guide.  I’m venturing into the dreaded world of pastel colors, again. I’m going to beat this “fear” of pale colors yet!! I used some papers from a DCWV stack, some for the background, and some for the die cut shape on the corner of the image; a doily, some die cut flourishes, and butterflies cut with my Cricut. I mounted the image on a tag shape, that I punched the edge and top with.  A simple sentiment was stamped along the top, then some strips of bling added. After assembling the card, but before adhering the butterflies, it became apparent that my love of glitter was taking over, so I added glitter all over the butterflies :) I love the effect!!

Butterfly Hugs

Butterfly Hugs

Butterfly HugsI was cleaning in my craft room the other day, and just realized the sheer magnitude of all the stuff that I – a. Never use   b. Forgot I had  c. Am saving for the right project

I’m going to attempt to use some of it…Bit by bit :) I’m not sure if I ever used these Kaiser Craft stamps before, but they are beautiful!! I stamped and embossed them, then cut them out with a Nelly Snellen circle die.  I got a HUGE pack of black and white paper a few years ago…Many coordinating prints that I’ve turned to once in a while, but not as often as the package size warrants!  I cut a few circles out of a few of the patterns, then stamped and embossed a small LDRS sentiment on another plain circle.  After gluing them down on the background paper, I saw that some definition was needed!  As it was too late to mat them, I used 2 different size dies to make frames for each circle :) This was all the card needed.  As CAS as I get!!

Trimming the Tree

Trim the Tree

Trimming the TreeHello there!!! It’s just starting to look like spring here, so that must mean that it’s time to make a Christmas card!! This week at C.R.A.F.T., our theme is just that, Christmas!  We have 2 amazing sponsors, Star Stampz and Digital Papercraft :)

I used Imagine Fairy Girl, from Digital Papercraft for my card.  She’s not really a Christmas image, but I saw her reaching to put a star on the tree as soon as I came across the image :)  I colored her with my SN markers, then glittered up her wings (of course….fairies need sparkle wings!)  I fussy cut her out, then die cut 2 trees, which I cut up and layered, then decorated with glitter.  I mounted them with foam pads on a die cut shape that I edged in doodles, and placed a glittery star in her hand.  I put this on a DP background, then found some coordinating ribbon to accent the corners.  A bow and a stamped sentiment finish this off :)
