Watching

Hello!  It’s hard to believe that we are 3/4 of the way through April already!!! Especially hard to believe for those of us that are still experiencing winter-like weather!  No time to mope about it, though, because we have a fun new challenge for you at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog!!  For the next month, our theme is

Challenge 66 – Black & White with or without a Splash of Color

The design team has some amaaaaaazing inspiration pieces for you, so be sure to check it out and get some ideas for your own work of art!!!

I decided to do a wall hanging for my project.  I used Princess of the Sea, which can be found at the AW Etsy Store here, and at Aurora Wings.com here.  I cropped the image before printing it, then carefully drew in some droplets.  I was going for the effect of a mermaid looking through a porthole….with color showing through the condensation droplets.  Although I’ve done the dew drops before, my head was having a bit of fun getting around the color in just the drops.  I messed around with 5 other of Mitzi’s mermaid images, and just could not make things work with them….my efforts actually ended up in the bin….and I NEVER throw anything out, lol.  Finally, I got the old neurons clicking in some semblance of order, and, after figuring out what color the parts behind the water would be, I colored the drops in, then proceeded to color the rest of the image in the black and white tones.

I cut the “port hole” on my Cricut, from some black shimmer paper, and some plain CS to give it depth.  I then dug through my brad bin (poor thing has been sadly neglected lately) and found a number of screw head brads to use on the port hole.  I THOUGHT I had some black and white wood grain patterned paper, but I couldn’t find it in my mess, so used a print that resembled concrete, and added lines to make it look like old ship boards.  I wanted the edges to be rough, so cut them with a few different edge scissors (talk about digging up the retro supplies, lol).  After inking the edges, I got out my dies, and some black chalk board paper (it’s darker black than the plain black CS), and plain white CS.  I cut a variety of vegetation and some fish with various dies from Frantic Stamper, Savvy Dies, and a few others that I can’t remember. I draped a piece of cheese cloth over the top, then positioned the diecuts to frame the image.  To finish off, I added some white pearls, and some clear Nuvo drop accents.  Black and white twine is used to hang this piece 🙂

After I got my head on straight, I had a ton of fun with this project!!! I really hope that you can get your black and white (and maybe a splash of color) on with us this month at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog!!!

Gardening Elves

It will be a while before any gardening gets started around here, but these guys seem to be right into it 🙂  This image is from The Paper Shelter, and is titled Spring Elves.  I colored it up with my Copic and SN markers, with a few touch ups in the clouds, after my blue markers decided to dry out!! 🙁  As it is a rather involved image, I chose to keep the paper patterns simple, and went with some DCWV sheets from a pad that I got recently.  I die cut a small smile and brought out a bit more of the bright pink in the image with some Nuvo drop accents 🙂  I used this fabulous sketch at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 as my inspiration for the layout

Baby Bear

Hi there 🙂  I was sorting through my card stash, and found that I didn’t have any baby boy cards….here I’ve been stocking up on the girl ones, and no boy!! And just my luck, there will be a rash of boys born in the next little while, lol.  I’ve had this image from Mo’s Digital Pencil for some time. I used the stippling effect with my Copic markers, to make Little Bear even fluffier than he normally is 🙂  I had a pad of papers that were free with a magazine years ago, and this circle print seemed like just the right thing for this card!  I double cut a congrats sentment with a Tim Holtz Sizzix die, then arranged everything according to this super sketch at the Sketch Saturday blog

Easter Garden

Hi there 🙂  My last Easter card for this year, I think….considering I don’t really give them out, lol.  This card features a cute little coloring page by Molly Harrison, that I sized down to use on a card. I colored the image with my Copic and SN markers, then added some shimmer to the wings with Wink of Stella (which, of course, you can’t see in the photo!) and also added a gold frame with a metallic marker.  The little flower print paper really fit with the spring feel of the image, as did the colored CS that I used for the background and the stitched die cut banners.  I added a little extra interest and detail by distressing the print paper, tucking a doily between some layers, adding some cross stitch detail and some gold pearls.  Now, I wish that the weather here would figure out that it was spring, and quit with the snow already!!

I’d like to enter this into the following challenges:

Spring Wings

Good morning 🙂  I have a spring-y card for you today.  It’s slowly starting to feel like spring here, even though Mother Nature decides to dump a bunch of snow on us every once in awhile!! It melts fast, though, which leaves a mucky, slushy mess…..but I’m not complaining!!  Anyway, back to my card!  I used a gorgeous image from Ching-Chou Kuik, called Spring Charm.  I colored her up with my Copic and SN markers, using a white gel pen for a few tiny accents.  I was a bit stumped as to the layout for my project, until I came across this sketch, from Feeling Sketchy.

Sketch #189

I flipped the sketch on it’s side to use it, and went to work 🙂  I die cut a butterfly border from a scrap of orange CS, and adhered it to the edge of the image.  I found the lace and the ribbon in my stash, and after placing them, added a sentiment on a small tag, a bow, and a pretty Petal Lu flower 🙂   All the layers are popped up with dimensional foam to give the card a little more interest (and add to the shipping fees, lol).

Happy Easter

Hi there!! Thanks for stopping by 🙂  I don’t give out a lot of Easter cards, but like to have a few on hand, just in case.  So it worked out great with the new challenge over at C.R.A.F.T., with the theme being Easter/Spring 🙂  We have a favorite sponsor back for this challenge, Eureka Stamps 🙂

3 images of choice.

I was given Bunch of Eggs from our sponsor to use on my card.  I merged it with an Easter sentiment on my computer before printing it off and coloring it with my Copic and SN markers.  I wanted to keep the design of the card fairly simple, with having the sentiment and image all in one, so I decided to just go with the layers.  I went through my scraps, and found different colors that coordinated with the image, and layered them all with black.  I’m loving the clean look of this card!!

I’d like to enter the following with this:

Happy B-Day

Hi there 🙂  Here, I have a card, which is my inspiration for the current challenge at Creative Fingers Challenge Blog.  All of our challenges are ATG, so we would love to see what you have created!!!  We always have a great prize up for grabs, and this time we have Maria Medel Illustrations as our sponsor 🙂

Check out the challenge blog for some great discount codes at the Maria Medel Illustration store, as well 🙂

I used one of the images from the Kitties digital stamp bundle that I was given to make my card.  I colored it with Copic markers, then fussy cut it out.  My mojo has been struggling lately, but I found a bit of it when I went through my papers and found this cute print.  I found some pink scraps that coordinated with the print, and cut one with a stitched square die, and the other with a stitched border edging die.  I found a couple charms, and strung them on thin black ribbon, which I attached to the card with a bow.  I used tiny black stickers, that I had hiding in my stash, for the sentiment 🙂

Let Your Dreams Take Flight

Good morning 🙂  The calendar says it’s spring, but it’s not quite feeling like it here though!! My inspiration card for the new challenge at the Sheepski Designs Facebook group feels spring-y, though 🙂  Our challenges are ATG, but there’s always an optional twist to help the old mojo, and this month, it’s Spring Things.  There are so many gorgeous images to choose from Andrea’s Sheepski shop on Etsy, but this time, I picked one of her newer images….Butterfly Curl, to work with.  Don’t forget to use this discount code, if you find something you need!!

I printed the image up on some pretty teal paper, then colored it up with my Prismacolor pencils.  I loved the look of it so much, that I decided to leave it as a one layer, CAS card 🙂  The sentiment that I found was perfect for the image, and I printed it on a piece of gold vellum that I had kicking around here.  It looks way more subtle in real life than the photo!!  To bring a bit more gold in, I used a MS sparkle pen to dot around the butterflies to give them an almost magical effect 🙂

Sprite Delight at Aurora Wings!

Hi there!!!  Did you know that there is something fun happening at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog??  It’s our 4th Anniversary at the challenge blog, and …. the theme is Sprite Delight V!!!

Image may contain: drawing

This challenge is all about those adorable, whimsical little creatures that Mitzi has been sharing with us, the Sprites!  Speaking of sharing with us, Mitzi has graciously extended this coupon code until the 20th of March!

No automatic alt text available.

As if that isn’t enough, Mitzi has created the lovely little Lilac Sprite as a special gift for you!! There’s no excuse not to get your Sprite on, with this fabulous freebie offer 🙂  Just a warning, one is never enough of these little darlings!! 🙂

As proof of my last statement, here is my inspiration project for the challenge.

Yup, just couldn’t stop at one…or two…..lol.  I’ve used the following Sprites for my tuxedo fold card.  Hydrangea Sprite; available at Aurorawings.com (png) or (jpg) and at Aurora Wings Etsy store (png) or (jpg). And the following, found exclusively at the Aurorawings.com store: Carnation Sprite (png) or (jpg); Daffodil Sprite (png) or (jpg); Tiger Lily Sprite (png) or (jpg) and Marigold 2 Sprite (png) or (jpg).  I colored up this garden of Sprites with my Copic and SN markers, then fussy cut them out.  I assembled the tuxedo fold card base from a pale mauve CS, then layered over it with die cut white lattice pieces.  A Cheery Lynn flower and butterfly border, some Tattered Lace die cut butterflies and a scalloped edge were added to make it look like the Sprites were frolicking in a whimsical garden.  I added some glitter to all the butterflies to give the project a wee bit of sparkle.  Here’s a few close ups to show a bit more of the detail 🙂

Life is Better

Hello there 🙂  We have a new challenge at the C.R.A.F.T. Challenge blog 🙂  This time our theme is “Animals”, and we have 2 super sponsors:

Scrap N' Dipity
3 images of choice

and

Voucher for 15% off your order

I was given the Cowboy Silhouette image and the  Better in Cowboy Boots greeting, both from DRS Designs, to use on my project.  I printed the silhouette on some paper that had a sunburst/sunset effect (it’s origami paper!) – I wanted it to look like they were riding in after a long day 🙂  I printed the sentiment on the opposite side of the same paper, matted them both in black, and placed them on a background paper from the same pack.  A few diecut cowboy boots, some punched stars, and a twist of black twine finished this card off 🙂 Another birthday card in my stash for all the cowboys/wanna be cowboys around here 🙂
