Dark Wishes

Hi there!! I tried something different with this card.  Ching Chou Kuik’s Facebook challenge for March is Everyone’s a Picasso, where we are to be inspired by one of Picasso’s many paintings. A challenge it was!! Ching Chou’s images are very un-Picasso-y, but you should see some of the creations that members have come up with!!  I used Woman With Crow as my inspiration:

woman-with-a-crow

I printed the image, Raven Soul,  on some dark blue card stock, then got to work with my Prismacolor pencils.  It was so hard to see!!  I tried to stick with the colors as best as I could, with the very white face, fading into an orangey color, then the black feathers of the bird.  Once I had it all colored, I was a bit stumped as to the layout…..until I came across this sketch:

at Sketch Saturday! I edged everything with gold ink, then die cut some black banners.  I smuged some ink and doodled some branches on the backing paper, then stamped and embossed a sentiment.  A few gold studs on the banner tied everything together :)

Along with Sketch Saturday, I’d like to enter this into the following challenges:

Polkadoodles – ATG week 10/11

Flapper Glam

Flapper Glam

Flapper GlamHello!! After a short break, we are back with another ATG challenge at Creative Fingers! This time, we are sponsored by the wonderful Lemon Shortbread :)

https://www.etsy.com/shop/lemonshortbread

The DT members have been busy creating some fabulous projects to inspire you, so be sure to check them out, and leave a little love on the way!!

I received the gorgeous Flapper Twirl Girl image to use on my card.  I wanted to go for a real Art Deco look with her.  I colored her up with my SN markers, then added some Wink of Stella to the dress and headpiece, and gel pen accents to her beads.  I stuck to my favorite color combo with this card, using a pretty patterned backing paper, and some geometric shapes for the foundation.  I cut some feathers with my Cricut, then accented them with gel pens.  I had some fringe left over from a fringe dress that I made years and years ago, that fit nicely with the scheme, as well as a blingy trim that I scored at the dollar store!!  I’m very happy with how this all came together!

I’d like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Classic Design Team Open Challenge – #12 March ATG

Digi Choosday Crafting Challenge – Week 11 ATG

Trimming the Tree

Trim the Tree

Trimming the TreeHello there!!! It’s just starting to look like spring here, so that must mean that it’s time to make a Christmas card!! This week at C.R.A.F.T., our theme is just that, Christmas!  We have 2 amazing sponsors, Star Stampz and Digital Papercraft :)

I used Imagine Fairy Girl, from Digital Papercraft for my card.  She’s not really a Christmas image, but I saw her reaching to put a star on the tree as soon as I came across the image :)  I colored her with my SN markers, then glittered up her wings (of course….fairies need sparkle wings!)  I fussy cut her out, then die cut 2 trees, which I cut up and layered, then decorated with glitter.  I mounted them with foam pads on a die cut shape that I edged in doodles, and placed a glittery star in her hand.  I put this on a DP background, then found some coordinating ribbon to accent the corners.  A bow and a stamped sentiment finish this off :)

I’d like to enter this card into the following challenges:

The Paper Shelter Challenge – #285 Away With the Fairies

Winter Wonderland – For a Child

Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge – #325 ATG with the option (I didn’t use the option) of no pattern paper

Pansy Sprite

Pansy Sprite

Pansy SpriteHi there!! I figured it just wouldn’t be right for me to NOT enter a card into the Aurora Wings challenge. At. The. Last. Minute.  It’s becoming some kind of a tradition for me or something, lol.  For this card, I used the amazing Pansy Sprite, that Mitzi so generously gave as a freebie for the duration of the challenge.  Pansies are my absolute all time favorite flower, hands down.  To the extent that I have a pansy tatoo, and nicknamed my mother in law Pansy…..  So I had to do something with this wonderful sprite!!  I was thinking of doing her up in some really different pansy colors, and spent quite a bit of time looking through pictures of pansy patches that I’ve had, but, instead, went with a very traditional color scheme.  The big challenge for me was to do this in pastel colors…..I don’t do pastels well….I find them hard to color, hard to wear, and always think that there should be a bit more “oomph” when I look at them.  I think I pulled it off here, with my Prismacolor pencils….I colored her at work, and only took a select few pencils with me so I wouldn’t be tempted to amp things up a bit :)  After cutting the image out with a die/fussy cutting, and matting it in a slightly deeper purple, I embossed a mint green piece of card stock (mint….me??).  I took the pansy edge from a piece of card stock that I had laying around, so I could balance the card a bit by edging the image’s opposing corner.  A piece of pale mauve polka dot paper is peeking out from below some pastel yellow lace.  The butterflies are stickers, that I stuck to white paper, then fussy cut out.  After attaching the bow, and the tag with the stamped sentiment, I felt that all the sparkle was out of balance some how (the butterflies are sparkly, but the pic doesn’t show that well).  I had a dream about my great niece, who was insisting that I call her “Miss Sparkle Pants”…..so that inspired me to add a bit of sparkle to the sprite’s bloomers :)  Hope you like my venture into the “light” side :)

Here are the challenges that I would like to enter my card in:

Lily Sprite

Prairie Lily Sprite

Lily SpriteHello :)  I made this card using the adorable Tiger Lily Sprite from the one and only Aurora Wings.  As I live on the Canadian prairies, I grew up seeing wild prairie lilies in the ditches every summer, and quickly grew to love their bright, cheery pops of color in the long grass.  Prairie lilies are also the provincial flower of Saskatchewan.  This is why I just HAD to color this sweetie up in the colors of the wild lily :)  After coloring the image with my SN markers, I fussy cut it out.  I used a scrap of paper for the background, then layered up some green fiber paper, some glassine paper, a strip of burlap and some die cut circles.  I did the circles with 2 nesting dies each….I am frantically trying to build my stash of dies, but my budget does not keep up with my dreams, so I try to make do and improvise wherever possible!! I cut some banner shapes with the same colors as the circles and attached them to the corners.  After layering everything up, I tied some gold cording with a green heart charm along 2 edges, and sprinkled on some Frantage mica flakes.  If anybody could tell me the secret of how to randomly glue these flakes down, I would be forever grateful!! I dab glue here and there, but it always seems to not look as “random” as I would like…..  I hope you like this little prairie sprite :)

Hi there!!  My card today has been travelling the world for a while, en route to Australia.  I made this for Alyce at Kit and Clowder, as a thank you for all the support and encouragement that she gives to us Clowdies!!! The image is from KennyK Stamps, and can be found HERE.  I colored her up with my SN markers, then matted the image on some paper that matched her jacket.  I die cut some teal flourishes with a Couture Creations die, and added some flowers to coordinate with the rest of the card.  Everything was put on an backing paper that we embossed with a Darice embossing folder.  A bit of sparkly ribbon, some blingy centres for the flowers, white gel pen accents, and a stamped sentiment finish this card off :)

Butterfly Friends

Butterfly Friends

Hi there :) I made this card completely by using the sketch inspiration from MFT Sketch Challenge and the color and stash inspiration from the Butterfly Challenge. I took a look at this sketch:

MFT Sketch Challenge 322 #mftstamps

…And then saw that the Butterfly Challenge had the theme of G is for Glossy Accents, with the color option of Slate Blue. I stamped the butterflies (Inkadinkadoo) all over the backing paper, then cut the frame from some slate blue card stock with my Cricut. I traced where the frame would sit, then used my Prismacolors to only color the inside part…..Of course using blue shades….Including the slate. I took a strip of ivory edged with some black pinstriping, then a strip of white, which I stamped a LDRS sentiment on.  Finally, I stamped and colored one more butterfly, which I covered with Glossy Accents, and added it as an accent.  The joys of photography (when it’s a bit dark), don’t really show off the colors in a true way, or the shine of the Glossy Accents….unless you really zoom in a lot.   I think this makes a cheerful, yet classy card for a friend!!

Zebras

Zebras

ZebrasI had the idea for this card the other day, and was really excited to get to it, because it was back to some of my old rubber stamping techniques.  I used an old rubber-stamp of a zebra, I don’t know the brand name, but I got it at Michael’s as part of a set of animals.  I used masking to make a row of them to run across the strip of white card stock.  The sentiment stamp is also an oldie…..it’s by Stampology.  I used a Nellie Snellen circle die to cut it out and to mat it in the turquoise.  I’ve had the animal print Cuttlebug embossing folders for a long time, but haven’t used the zebra (or tiger???) one yet.  It was perfect to use with CoreD’inations Black Magic paper :)  After sanding the embossing to expose the white, I matted everything with turquoise and added a few small brads to the corner.  Loving the CAS design of this card :)

Our Badge

I must confess, time got away on me, and this was a late make!!

You're 4

I used Ballerina Emma, and colored her up with my SN markers. Yesterday it was feeling very spring like here (today, not so much, with about 6″ of snow overnight), so I used soft pastel colors. I used scraps from 2 different paper collections, and cut the number 4 out with my Cricut. I used a die from Elizabeth Craft  for the bunting. Pink ribbon bows, some yellow flowers, a Brad and glitter glue pulled everything together, ready for the fussy cut image to dance onto the card :)

Up and Away

Hello!  Lately, I’ve been trying to use stamps and other products that I’ve had for some time and have neglected to use.  The stamp that I have used here is from Crafty Paws….it was a freebie eons ago, and I thought the little pups in their balloon was so cute…..and that’s as far as it went until now :/  I colored this up with my Prismacolors, then used the sketch over at Tuesday Morning Sketches as a guide for putting the card together.

It’s such a versatile sketch, that I’m sure I’ll be using it again and again :)  It’s also a great layout to use scraps up, which I did with my card.  The diagonal strip needed some “oomph”, so I cut arrows in it with my Cricut, then layered it over some red.  The sentiment is made with tiny alpha stickers on a die cut circle.  I doodled some more arrows around the image and added some bright adhesive embellishments to finish this card off :)

In addition to Tuesday Morning Sketches, I would like to enter this into the following challenges:
