Another Birthday!

I work with a bunch of guys, and I like to make them birthday cards for their special day. Some of them have a sense of humour, and actually appreciate a bit of snark with their cake 🙂 I made this card for one of our more senior guys, featuring an image from Whimsy Stamps. Dudley with Toilet Paper was a freebie given during Covid, as a sweet pick me up for all the Whimsy fans 🙂 I had other ideas for it with this card, lol. I colored the image up with my Prismacolor pencils, then cut it out with a wavy die.

I gathered some coordinating papers, and set to cutting an assembling the card. I layered the image with a black matting, over a polka dotted frame, that was set at an angle over another dotted print. A combination of die cuts makes up half the sentiment, then I printed the last part on my computer. A few enamel dots finish this fun card off.

Tea Time Treats

Hi there 🙂 Every once in a while, I like to send a quick note to tell distant friends or family that I’m thinking about them. I made this little notecard using an adorable image from Pink Gem Designs 🙂 I colored up Tea Time Hedgie with my Copics, adding some highlights with my white Posca pen.

To assemble the card, I chose a happy rainbow colored print for the background. I cut an oval frame into a piece of cardstock that coordinated with the cup, then added a white frame to the aperture. I then popped this over the image with some foam dots to give it some depth. Some flowers with button centres and a cheery Hello sentiment finished this card off.

30

Hi there 🙂 It was recently my son’s birthday. How did he get to be 30 already?!?!?!?! I think he’s wondering the same thing! I wanted to make a special card for him, and thought of a shaped 30. I got out some of my templates, and created the card base, overlapping the numbers, so there’d be more writing room on the inside. I’ve had a pad of paper for years, that has all kinds of fabric prints in masculine tones and patterns. I cut the numbers out of some of these, and layered them onto the base. I then used a couple of pens to add stitching along the edges. I die cut numerous banner shapes from the printed paper, and some with a stamped sentiment. After arranging them on some twine that I’d draped across the front of the card, I added some silver embellishments and some twine bows at the ends. A few more silver embellishments on the number finish this off. I’m so pleased that my son loved his card <3

Teddy Rocker

Hi there 🙂 Today is the start of a new challenge over at Creative Fingers. As always, our challenge is ATG, as we love to see anything and everything that you create!! Our wonderful sponsor this time is our own Tindaloo, who is offering 3 images to the winner! For my project, I created a baby card using an old image from Beccy’s Place. I believe this one has been retired, as I can’t find it anywhere in the store anymore, but there is a lot of other images there that will get you drooling! I colored the teddy bear with my Copics, then fussy cut him out.

I decided to make a rocker card this time, and cut the base with a pierced circle die. I used a smaller die from the same set to cut the white piece, then matted it with a fancy edged circle die cut. To add a bit of color to my neutral card, I used some blue scraps of card stock to cut the congrats sentiment, pins, as well as a sprinkling of hearts and dots. A few grey sprinkles balance things out.

Rainbow Blooms

Hi there 🙂 I was thrilled to be asked to be a guest designer at Mirtillamente Challenge for May. There are a number of fun themes for you to work with – rainbow – gnomes – fairies – turtle – bee. How much fun!!! I went with Rainbow and Bee for my GDT card that features the image Flowerz Flow 3. I colored the image up with my Copics, then used the mask that I’d cut to stencil in the background. Not exactly a honeycomb pattern, but it was the closest thing I had!! I then gave the whole thing a light spatter of black paint. After cutting out each panel and adhering it to a piece of black card stock, I added the sentiment, and the bee 🙂

Fishy Birthday Wishes

Hi there 🙂 With the weather finally feeling, and looking, like spring, everyone around here is talking about going fishing! When people start getting their rods and tackle out, we know that winter is finally over in the Canadian prairies! The Leaping Trout digital stamp set from Power Poppy has perfect images to use on cards for the avid fishermen around me! I printed the image twice, so I could mask it while I went to work on with my Distress Inks. I attached the image piece to the background before blending the ink, so there would be some continuity with the pattern of the background colors. When I was satisfied, I splattered water on it, to give it an even cooler effect. I removed the mask from the fish, and colored it with my Copics, adding a few white accents with my Posca pen.

I have some cool fishing dies from Gina K, so cut a rod and a hook from some silver card stock. I attached the 2 die cuts with a piece of silver thread, then glued them down. After matting the image with a pretty teal paper, I carefully positioned it on the background, so the ink blending patterns matched up. A simple stamped and embossed sentiment, cut out with a fishtail (ha) banner die, and more teal matting finishes the card off.

Fill Your Shoes

Hi there 🙂 We have a small staff at work, and recently, on of my work buddies left to bigger and better things. While we are so happy for her, it’s been pretty glum without her at work, as she brought a special spark to the office. I’ve have this Stamping Bella stamp by Mo Manning for quite some time, and it was the perfect one to make a farewell card for her! Although I’m not seeing this particular stamp any more at Stamping Bella, there’s many more Mo Manning ones available! Luckily, the image (without the sentiment included with the physical stamp), is available here at Mo’s Digital Pencil. I colored it up, then matted it with black. I found some coordinating designer paper that went well with the image, and layered a few prints up with the image. I picked through some of my older flower collections, and was lucky enough to find some that went well with this color scheme. I added black centres to the flowers, then die cut some flourishes and a black bow. A sweet goodbye to a very special lady <3

Steampunk

Hi there 🙂 Recently my bestie and I were wandering through Michael’s, and found a bag of steampunk themed buttons at a great price. There were so many, that we split them up, and both of us have a ton. We have found some amazing deals in areas of the store other than the cardmaking department! It’s been so long since I’ve done a steampunk project, that I had to dive right in!! I found this image from Holly Durr (Durrmaid Art on Facebook). Although I don’t see this particular image available, I’m drooling over some of her other work! I colored this up with my Copics, then added a bit of ink blending, and some script stamping in the background, before distressing the edges.

I took a few of the design papers from a steampunk botanical pack that I have and started layering things up. I inked some of the edges with Distress ink, using a gear die cut as a stencil in some places, added some rub-on (!!!!) corner designs, and distressed a few of the edges of the black mats. After getting everything all assembled, I added some of the embellishments that inspired the whole project.

Blossoming Gift Card Holder

Hi there 🙂 I always like to have a few gift card holders on hand for last minute gifts. I made this one, which looks deceptively like a simple card, using a gorgeous image from Silly Shells. I colored Bounty Full of Flowers up with my Copics, then added a stamped sentiment to it. After matting it in blue, I went to work on the base.

This is a rather simple design, with a pocket, and ample room to write a greeting.

70th Birthday

Hi there 🙂 My brother’s birthday is coming up, and then I realized that it was his 70th!! Couldn’t use a generic card for a special milestone like that, so got my thinking cap on! He has always had a huge love of horses, but before he left home, we found out I’m deathly allergic to them. Mom and Dad sold the ones we had and big brother was left without. I didn’t realize how big of a deal this was until many years later, after both of my parents had passed. Bro moved from the city to the farm, and immediately started acquiring his pets. He just beams when he talks of them, and is fully immersed in “horsey” life.

I’ve had this stamp, part of a set, for about 15 years, but haven’t used it in ages. It’s perfect for this occasion though! I did some masking, so I could put some trees in the background, then watercolored it with Distress inks. I wanted to implement twine (hay bales!) in some way on this card, and the current sketch at Creative Sketchy Girls was like a gift to bring all my ideas together.

I carefully glued the twine down, then stamped a circle sentiment with a die cut 70 in the middle. I popped that on with some foam dots and matted it up. It’s all ready to go in the mail to my one and only big brother 🙂
