Dahlia Pen Holder

Hi there!!! It’s been a hot week, ending in showers/storms all weekend!!! The good thing is, that as soon as it stops raining, the clouds break and the sun comes out to make it a beautiful day…..or part of day 🙂  My project for today is an inspiration piece for the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group challenge this month.  Our theme is “Recycle”, which can mean any number of things…..you can use recycled material in your project, or you can recycle the actual object (I’m sure there’s more ways of interpreting the theme, but my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders right now!).  I used the gorgeous Dream of Dahlia from the Etsy store to dress up this jar to make a pen holder.  I colored this beauty up with my Prismacolor Pencils, then fussy cut her out.  I took a piece of cardboard, that was a separator in a box, and ran it through my Cuttlebug with a pretty oval die.  It cut the basic shape out of the heavy cardboard (with a bit of help from me), and left a lovely embossed edge on the oval.  I glued the image to this and set it aside.  I took some twine (salvaged from an old job that I had….a TON of jeans came in, all individually rolled up and tied with twine….), and wrapped it around the middle of the jar.  I then took some pretty sheer ribbon and layered it over the twine before tying a pretty bow.  All I had to to then, was to center and glue down the image to finish this pretty recycle project 🙂

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!!!

Oh my!!! My head has been in the clouds with this funk I’ve been in, and I thought that I had blogged this card already!!!  The sweet little bunny here is from the Make It Crafty Store, and can be found here.  I colored Court Bunny up with my Copics, then cut him out and set him aside, while I prepared the background.  I took some parchment like paper and used Tim Holtz die and stencil in the harlequin pattern.  I inked the edges and did the stenciling with Distress inks.  To bring a bit more of the yellow in, I inlaid some off cuts of the harlequin die cut that I cut from a scrap of yellow paper.  I matted everything on a purple that was a scary close match (not on purpose!) to the bunny’s outfit 🙂  The sentiment is printed on the computer, and is cut out with a banner die.

Mermaid Elegance

Hello there 🙂  It’s another Sunday, which means that it’s my turn to inspire at the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook Group.  We have a challenge going for this month, and the theme is Summer/Seaside.  There are literally hundreds of gorgeous images at Ching-Chou’s Etsy store that can be used to create something in this theme!!!  I used the beautiful Midnight Tender, and colored her up with my Copics in my all time favorite color combo 🙂

After cutting the image out, partially with a stitched rectangle die, and partially fussy cut, I chose some pretty black and white printed paper pieces.  I matted the pieces with red, then tied some white twine around them before popping up the image on some foam dots.  I used both a Tim Holtz and a Recollections die for the sentiment, and added a pretty red blossom and some glitzy dots to finish it off 🙂

Keep On Swimming

Good morning 🙂  Today marks my first day back at work after my little stay-cation.  It will be good to get back to the routine again, as I get a bit lost without it!!  It also marks the start of a brand new challenge at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog 🙂

That’s right…..it’s ATG!!! Which means the sky is the limit for your creativity, and we would love, love, love to see what kind of amazing projects that you come up with!!!

I was having a bit of a time with the wide open theme, as my head goes in every which direction if given the opportunity (see above with my reference to routine, lol).  Well, Donna, the DT lead at Aurora Wings, gave me the idea of a clean and simple card….which I took a step further (of course) and decided on a one layer CAS card.  I’ve done CAS before, but never a one layer.  I decided on the Two Goldfish image (found exclusively at the AuroraWings.com store), that I added a sentiment to before printing it off on some pretty turquoise CS.  Because I was making a one layer card, I colored the image with my Prismacolor pencils, to prevent any bleed-through.

On my FOURTH try, I stopped there…..clean and simple, nothing else needed…..Mitzi’s gorgeous artwork properly showcased…..enough.  But on my first THREE times, I did not stop, I kept trying to add something….texture with an embossing folder (oops….wrecked the colored image…in the bin), some stenciling (too fussy for the overall look…..in the bin), some stamping…..NO….just awful, and in the…bin.  Sigh.  After finally showing some restraint….really had no choice as I was running out of the right size of blue paper….I called it done.  I can honestly say that I have enormous respect and admiration for the cardmakers out there that make the beautiful one layer CAS cards….they are truly amazing!!! As for me, I’m afraid this is a one of…..I’m happy I did it, love the result, but will never put myself through this again!!!!

Steampunk Rose

Hi there!!! I totally missed the beginning of the new challenge at Creative Fingers!!! I had a reminder set, but it was for next week 🙁  I’m going to blame fat fingers for hitting the wrong day!!!!  Our fabulous sponsor is the one and only Rick St. Dennis 🙂

I was given Steampunk Rose Bug to work with on my project.  I colored it with my Copics and added some highlights with white gel pen, and some clear Nuvo Drops.

After die cutting the image out, I used distress inks in the background.  I had purchased the Steampunk Botanical paper pad at Michael’s some time ago, and knew that I had to use some of it with this image.  I used pieces from a few different sheets, then added a die cut gear border to compliment the paper patterns and the steampunk theme of the image.  Because some of the DP had a glitter on it, I also added some brown glitter to the die cut.  I added a few droplets and some glitter dots as the final touch. 🙂

Mermaid Sunset

Good morning 🙂  I’m here with another inspiration project for the current Ching-Chou Kuik  Facebook Group challenge 🙂  Our theme for the month of July is Summertime/Seaside.  There are tons of gorgeous mermaid and summery images in the Ching-Chou Kuik store to get you started, and we would LOVE to see your creations with these beautiful images!!!  I used the Sunset Jasmine image, from the Beautiful Tails mermaid set.  I colored her up with Copics, adding some highlights with a white gel pen.

I had seen the “impossible card” fold in a few places recently, and wanted to try it.  I’ve never been the greatest at following directions to a “T”, so I modified the measurements a bit and ended up with an image that didn’t want to stand up!!  I had to add a piece to the back to prop it up, but it doesn’t affect the design, or the ability to fold it up and fit it in a standard size envelope 🙂  I’ve had the burlap background die for some time, and never used it, but I immediately thought about it when making this card!!  I cut 2 and a bit out and used them as a backdrop for the punched flowers, leaf vines, and the scattering of silver seashells.  I also added a few pearl sprays to the top part, and a shimmery die cut sand dollar to the bottom piece.  I then printed out the sentiment on my computer and cut the banner shapes…..wiggling around with the dies a bit to make them smaller, and more fitting with the card 🙂

Summer Garden

Wow, time flew today, as I was at a special 4 yr old’s birthday party 🙂  But I’m still in time to make my DT inspiration post for the current challenge at the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group. Our theme for the month of July is Summertime/Seaside, so for this card, I went with the summertime theme.  I used the image “Summer Garden“, available at the CCK Etsy shop.

I colored the gorgeous image with my copic and SN markers, then set it aside as I assembled the rest of the easel card.  I used a textured paper as a background, and formed die cut daisies to coordinate with the image.  A hot pink doily, a strip of lace and some narrow ribbon were the embellishments I used.  After stamping the sentiment, I cut it out with a banner die and popped it up on some foam.  After all the flowers were arranged around the image and sentiment, all that was needed to finish the card were a few hot pink Nuvo Drop accents 🙂

A Cheerful Birdie :)

Hi there!!! I was honored to be asked to join the Cheerful Sketches team as a GDT this month 🙂  This challenge always has the most amazing sketches, and every month has a spectacular lineup of sponsors and prizes.  I get to work with a Bugaboo image for my GDT 🙂  Not only are the images from Bugaboo super cute and original, but Jodie, the artist, is a personal friend of mine 🙂  The sketch this month is one that I can see myself turning to over and over, as it’s so striking and fun!!

The image I was given is called Spring Bird….available at the store here, for only $1!!!  I colored the image up with my Copics, then cut it out with a Nellie Snellen nesting oval die.  I stuck with the primary colors, mostly red, white and blue; and basic patterns for this card, to give it a super cheerful vibe 🙂  After layering all the pieces, I added some melted pony beads (yes, this little trick actually worked for me!) as a final accent.  I’d like to thank the team at Cheerful Sketches for asking me to be their guest this month, and give everyone a personal challenge to see what they can come up with using this awesome sketch 🙂

Vacation Time

Hi there!!! I’m thrilled to show this creation to you, as it’s for a guest design appearance that I was invited to at Scrapping 4 Fun Challenges!  The theme this time is Holiday, and here is the inspiration picture:

I just so happened to have the perfect image to work with, from the challenge sponsor, All Dressed Up 🙂

I colored up Sandy Beach with my Copic pens, then cut the image out with a stitched rectangle die from Gina K.  When I went digging through my paper stash, I couldn’t believe how perfectly the paper I chose to use coordinated with the image!!! One of those happy accidents…I’ll stick to that excuse, rather than admitting that I have more paper than the average scrapbook store, lol!  After layering everything up, I finished off with a stitched banner (My Favorite Things), a Recollections “fun” sentiment (that’s what holidays are all about), and some bird cuts from a Tattered Lace set.  I hope that you can stop over at Scrapping 4 Fun Challenges, and join in the Holiday Challenge there!!! It was great to be a GDT, and I want to thank the ladies for inviting me to be a part of their fun 🙂

Pansy Mermaid

Hi there!!! I’m so happy to be able to finally announce that I’ve been asked to join the Ching-Chou Kuik DT!! Of course I said yes….as I’ve loved her images for a long time, and it will be an honor to showcase them 🙂  This is my first DT make, for the Facebook Group Challenge – Summertime/Seaside.  I used Pansy Mermaid, found in the Ching-Chou Kuik store on Etsy, because I felt that she encompassed both of the themes….and my favorite flower is the pansy 🙂  I colored this beauty up with my Copics, then went on the hunt for papers and embellishments.

I completely forgot that I had this pansy print paper, I purchased it years (8 or 9) ago, and proceeded to hoard!!  I used a subtle purple print from the same pad to mat everything and to punch out the pansy border on the mat of the image (using a MS pansy border punch). The ribbon was a scrap that I had in my scrap drawer, and was just long enough for what I needed 🙂  I die cut a little yellow doily with a My Favorite Things die, used a Sizzix die to cut out the banner that I stamped the sentiment on.  Years ago, when I belonged to an online swap community, my user name was PansySuz…..so often, I would get the most wonderful pansy themed crafty goodies from around the world!!!  The pansy that is in the centre of the bow is one such goodie….It’s a blank pansy, and I received a few of them from a swap friend in Brazil <3  I’ve hoarded them, but this card was the perfect place to use one, after coloring it with my Copics to match the flowers in the image!  I couldn’t believe that I didn’t have any yellow dots, drops or anything to use as an accent, so I quickly made some up with some Fimo 🙂  They provided the perfect finishing touch 🙂
