3D Birthday Pup

Hi there 🙂 I decided to try something a bit different for this birthday card….well, different for me!! I’ve had this Spellbinders layered Happy Birthday die for some time, and have used the elements separately, but have never used it the “right way”. I used a sweet image from Goha Digital Stamps, and practiced my black animal coloring with my Copics.

After fussy cutting the image out, I set to assembling the card. I used a red card stock for the base, scoring the sides, and cutting a window out for the first layer of the 3D look. I cut the sentiment and the balloons out of white card stock, carefully lining up the cuts with the front window. I layered some color cuts onto the balloon window. On the back panel, I cut a circle, the same size as the front window, from some mirror card, just to add even more dimension to the card. Some extra, colorful balloons finished off, and balanced out the front panel. After assembling, I glued on a back panel with a greeting, and plenty of space to write a personal message.

I’m pretty happy with the end result, however, when I make a card like this the next time, I’ll cut the middle layers a fraction smaller. This time, I cut them the exact size of the front, and when the card was assembled, there is a slight bow….I guess the folds make it necessary to make the middle pieces a hair narrower 🙂

2022 Desk Calendar

Hi there 🙂 The first challenge of the new year at Creative Fingers is starting today, and we’d love it if you could join us. The theme is always ATG, so anything your creative minds come up with is welcome! Angelique is sponsoring, offering this stamp set with some fabulous sentiments.

I like having a calendar on my desk at work, so decided to make one for my DT inspiration. The image is a freebie from Kanoko Egusa, and was just too pretty not to use! I colored it up with my Copics, then fussy cut it out. I die cut the 2022 out, then popped it on the image using foam dots. I printed and cut the monthly pages out, then ran the the tops of each through my sewing machine to perforate them, before stapling them together. That’s where I ran into trouble!! I must have been looking at things wonky, because the staples were crooked, and wrecked the look 🙁 I solved the problem when I was assembling the calendar, by adding a strip of paper and a pretty die cut bow over the stapled part. I made sure it didn’t interfere with tearing off the months when needed 🙂 I found this tutorial on Pinterest for the design of the calendar base.

Scotty Christmas

Hi 🙂 Every year, I make a Christmas card for my sister that features a Scottie dog <3 This one took forever and a day to get to her, and when it arrived, it was in a bag, because the envelope and card had been badly ripped by the sorting machines 🙁 I figured I’d post it, so she could see what it was supposed to look like!! I saw an I-Crafter die set used on a card in one of my Facebook groups, and went on the search for it, as it was perfect (2 pups with a bow and a little sentiment). I cut the little guy out from a scrap piece of black. I arranged him jumping up on a simple Christmas sentiment. Of course I had to use plaid for background, because…well….Scottie!! I cut a top border, then placed a string of lights that was cut with the coolest Joycraft die set. Then comes the fun…..a little secret of mine is that I cannot seem to throw out even the smallest of glitter paper scraps!! Some are so ridiculously tiny, that I get tempted!! Well, I put those teeny pieces to good use with this card!!! I cut the light bulbs out of some different color sparkle pieces, and also added a sparkly red bow to the pup. A bigger piece (maybe 3/4″ x 2″, lol) was used to cut the letters out to inlay the sentiment die.

Party Pups

Hi there, and Happy 2022!! I’ve really let my blogging (and other things!) slide in the last few months, but I’m letting the new year be the impetus for getting back into it!! What better way to celebrate, than with bright colors ?…..and doggies, of course 🙂 I love this image from Digi Doodle Studios, as it has such versatility, for both male and female cards, young or old!! Party Pups are ready to have some fun!! I colored the image with my Copics, then added a few accents with white Posca, and glitter pens.

I picked a black polka dot background paper, as it provided a neutral, but fun, base for the brightly colored image and die cut accents. I went into my scrap drawer, and started die cutting frames, balloons, confetti and a sentiment. Lots of little pieces were used up!!! I arranged all the pieces, then added some strings for the balloons with white Posca, and a number of sparkly confetti like dots with glitter pen. The sentiment was a bit lost, so I made a shadow for it by tracing around the outside of the die, then cutting it out 🙂

Dazzle

Hi there 🙂 Even though I haven’t been blogging much lately, I’ve been busy. My stack of Christmas cards is growing quite nicely, and I’m starting to think about my baking marathon!! It’s been ages since I’ve made a shaker card, so here we go! I used this adorable image called Dazzle Reindeer – Trees, from the Too Cute collection at Polkadoodles. I colored him up with my Copics, and a few touches of white Posca, then fussy cut him out.

I’ve been trying to not cut into whole sheets of paper until I’ve used up some of my scraps and smaller pieces (got about 15 lifetimes worth of each, so I’m sure the call of the full sheet will lure me back at some point). I found these 2 printed pieces, that, while not from the same collection, or company, worked well together for this card. I assembled the shaker and attached little Dazzle in the corner. I die cut the sentiment out of 2 pieces of scrap paper, to give it a bit of a pop.

Shih Tzu

Hi there 🙂 It’s been ages since I’ve blogged anything!!! The “blahs” caught up with me and I’ve been having a hard time spending any time at all online. I’m trying to snap out of it, little bits at a time, and get back into it!! What better excuse to do so, than to share my latest DT card for Ching-Chou Kuik’s Facebook challenge? Our theme this month is “Remembrance, Thanksgiving, Thinking of You or Thank you”, and this week the DT was also given an extra challenge and that is to use some lace. I decided to do something a bit different with my card, and blow up and crop the adorable Shih Tzu image. I used just the dog and some of the flowers from the image, and colored it up with my Copics for this Thank You card. After fussy cutting it out, I placed it on an embossed background, that I’d given a quick spray with some Glimmer mist. I die cut the sentiment twice, to give a shadowed effect. Some simple black matting and a strip of pretty lace finish this card off.

All Star

Hi there 🙂 I’m sharing a card that I made as GDT for Conie Fong. I used Tori the Dragon – Birthday Boy for this. I colored it with my Copics,, then fussy cut it out.

While I was cleaning and reorganizing my craft room, I found all kinds of treasures that I forgot I had!! This paper fell into that “treasure category, especially when making this card 🙂 I used a bunch of coordinating prints, and die cut banners, borders for the bottom, and a background for little Tori. What a great way to use up scraps! There was also a sheet of cut outs that coordinated with the papers stuck in amongst some stuff, so I popped out some words, stars and arrows, and placed them around the card, popping some elements up with foam dots. Love how this card for a football lover turned out 🙂

Fabulous

Hi there 🙂 I’m sharing my second DT inspiration project for this month’s Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook challenge. The theme for September is “Think Pink for Breast Cancer”, but the DT has been given an extra challenge this week as well, and that’s to use some buttons 🙂 I used Marie Antoinette Dollie, and colored her up with my Copics, matching up the colors of the papers that I’d decided to use. I also added some “sparkle” to her wings with a white Posca pen.

I fussy cut her out and popped her on the background with some foam dots. I cut, scored and folded the printed cardstock to give the curtain effect, then took another strip and scored and folded it to form the bottom border. I die cut some silver shimmer scraps to make some bows, then added a button, tied with a matching piece of floss, to the centre of each bow. A stamped and embossed sentiment, cut with a thin banner die, finishes off this card.

Pretty In Pink

Hi there 🙂 I’m sharing my first DT inspiration card for the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group challenge this month. Our theme this month is “Think Pink for Breast Cancer”. I used the beautiful new image Moth and Fern for this. I colored her up with my Copics, then fussy cut her out. I die cut a silver mirror card shape to put her on.

When I was reorganizing my craft room, I found some pretty papers that I forgot that I had, and this pink with foil accents was perfect for this card!! I punched out 2 strips of lacy border with a punch, and edged them with mirror card. After matting everything, I die cut some layered butterflies and 2 “hugs” sentiments and layered them onto the card…….it looks like they’re blurred in the picture, but they aren’t….it’s an effect of the layering and the mirror card that I used for one of the cuts 🙂

Baby Giraffe <3

Hi there 🙂 It’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted anything that wasn’t DT or GDT related!! When I first saw this adorable little giraffe at Tiddly Inks, I fell in love! Although the version that I used, with the nightcap, is not in the store at this time, a very similar version can be found in the Fur Reals Animal Set. I colored this handsome boy up with my Copics, then added a cloudy background with some Distress Oxide inks, and a home made mask.

A giraffe’s build lends itself to a slimline card, lol, so that’s what I went with. I used some stacking slimline dies to cut out the image, letting some parts of him overhang the cut, then used bigger dies in the same set for the mat and the card base. I cut 2 sentiments out, and layered them so there was a shadow effect. A few little hearts, that were offcuts from another die, finish this card off.
