Fairy Fantasy

Hi there 🙂 I don’t usually make cards that are really fussy, but this one seemed to take a life of it’s own!! I colored up a beautiful fairy from the (now closed) Make It Crafty store with my Prismacolor pencils. After cutting it out with a pretty shaped die, I sprinkled some white and sparkly gold embossing powders over it, to give it a real fantastical look (the sparkles are so pretty, even though they don’t show up well in the photos!).

I then took 2 pieces of paper, dry embossed them, and slightly distressed the edges. I lightly brushed over the embossing with some clear ink, and sprinkled some more of the gold sparkle powder over that. I layered these pieces over a white card base, and added some pretty lace and a bit of gold ribbon to the top piece. I stamped a sentiment, cut it out with a die, then sprinkled a bit of the same gold powder on that, then popped it on the card. I went through my flower stash, and assembled some coordinating flower bunches, adding some pieces of the gold ribbon, and a few die cut leaves. Some gold adhesive embellishments finish this card off.

Gargoyle Greetings

Hi there 🙂 Recently, my kid’s partner celebrated his birthday. His favorite color is green, so I decided to make that the main color of his card. I found this cute Little Gargoyle image over at Whimsy Stamps, and thought it would bring a smile to his face. I colored it up with my Copic markers in stone like colors, then fussy cut him out – can you tell I love fussy cutting?? I do it on about 90% of my creations, lol.

For the background, I used a stencil to make a stone wall type of pattern, then die cut the sentiment border. I inlaid the bottom part of the sentiment with the off cuts of a sparkle die cut. After I put this together, I made a frame, that I popped on to the base with some foam to give a bit of dimension. I then lined up the image to perch atop the sentiment. I die cut a swag to add to the corner, and used some of the same greens that I’d used for the sentiment to add some color. A few grey enamel dots finish this all off.

Mr. and Mrs. Owl

Hi there 🙂 There’s been so many weddings popping up this year, that I needed another card for my stash. I love owls, and when I saw this set over at AMB Illustrations (and the price it was!!!), I just had to pop it in my cart! I colored up the wedding owls with my Copics, then fussy cut them out. I added some silver sparkle to her tiara, a bit of Wink of Stella to the veil, and some Flower soft to the bouquet and boutonniere.

I took a mint green card base, and cut a scalloped heart aperture in the front, then used a silver pen to trace around the edge. The owls got popped on at the base of the heart. I die cut a white frame to bring everything into focus. I’ve had these wedding stickers for forever, and used one of them to bring a bit more silver in. A scattering of white and silver pearls, and a white lining for the inside of the card finish everything off.

Wild Roses

Hi there 🙂 When I saw this image from QKR Stampede (no link available, as the company has been sold), it brought back so many summer memories. I can remember walking down the back roads by our farm, and seeing all these wild rose bushes. I’d always be sure to carefully pick a bunch for my mom, hoping that I beat my dad to it!! I colored this image with my Copics, then cut it out with a pretty die. I messed around with a few ideas before deciding to go the way I did. The leaves in the embossing folder really reminded me of the rose leaves. A piece of pink ribbon, a die cut sentiment, and some matting were all that was needed to bring this card together. I was so impressed that the ribbon and the paper for the die cut and matting not only perfectly matched up with the pink in the image, but with each other as well!!

Pine Bough

Hi there 🙂 Well, July got me in the groove with the Christmas card making, and I’m almost back on track to not have to go through a mad rush at the end of the year…..I just have to keep up the pace!! I love this image from Fred She Said. It’s so classic and beautiful. After printing it on a die cut card base, I colored up the pine bough with my Copics, then masked it off. I die cut 2 snowflake borders, then used them as a stencil to ink the snowy background with Distress Inks. A simple gold sentiment runs across the center of the card. I really love the effect I’ve achieved here with relatively little work!!

Sympathy

Hi there 🙂 Sadly, we all seem to need some sympathy cards in our stash, and I’ve been getting a little low. I printed off this beautiful floral corner image that came from the now closed Bugaboo Stamps. I decided to color it in monochrome for a more somber effect. The sentiment was printed at the same time as the image. I thought about adding a few small embellishments, but decided that it was good with just a plain black mat, and no fancy additions. Love how it turned out so simple, elegant and effective!

Girly 40th

Hi there 🙂 After a friend saw the 30th birthday card I made for my son recently, she asked if I could make a girly 40th version for her daughter. Of course I said I’d give it a try!! I love the look of gingham and flowers together, and I knew I had pink gingham paper in my stash. After cutting out the card base in the shape of a 40, I cut the gingham pieces a bit smaller and attached them. Then I went rummaging through my flower bin and picked out a variety of different blooms to make a pretty bouquet.

I stuck in a few pearl sprays, just to make it extra girly 🙂 A die cut sentiment banner draped across the top balanced things out a bit. For a finishing touch, I added a few more pearls. Love how feminine this is, and so did my friend!!

Sweet Birthday Wishes

Hi there 🙂 I was so thrilled to be asked to Guest Design at Rabisco Challenges this month!!! When I was given this sweet image from All Dressed Up, a bunch of ideas immediately popped into my head, and I began to rummage around my craft stash for baking themed papers and embellishments. After settling on the papers, I colored up Love to Bake with my Copics in a similar color scheme.

I assembled the card layers, then took a look at the pile of embellishments in front of me to make a choice. I realized that one of the charms that I chose came in the same kit as the papers (I got the kit at a store that’s been out of business for about 15 years, which gives an idea how long I hold on to stuff!!). I selected another charm, then tied them together and attached them to the card with a red bow to reflect the bow in the image. Then I chose 2 buttons to also add as embellishments. A quick stamped sentiment finished this card off. I’d like to thank the team at Rabisco for inviting me to join them this month, and I hope that you will join in the fun as well!!

Sunflower Bunch

Hi there 🙂 A very special person’s birthday is around the corner. My kids’ step-mom (who I call my wife-in-law) has got to be one of the most amazing people I know. She loves sunflowers, as they are so summery and happy, so of course that was my only choice for an image on her bday card. With flowers, I usually turn to Power Poppy first, and was certainly not disappointed this time!! This beauty, Sunshine of My Life, is not only beautiful, it’s free!! I colored it with my Copics, then matted it with a dark brown.

As with many of my cards where I want to keep the image the focus, I kept the design of this rather simple. The gingham print background gives a real homey feel to the card. A die cut sentiment in sunflower colors and a few yellow enamel dots finish this card off.

Sew Sweet

Hi there 🙂 When I saw this image, I just knew I had the perfect papers to make a card with it! These sweet mice from Di’s Digi Stamps are set to make something special for somebody! I colored them up with my Copics, then cut them out with a pierced circle die.

I used papers that I’ve been hoarding for 5 or 6 years to assemble the card, using the current sketch at Creative Sketchy Girls challenge for the layout.

I added some white faux stitching on the one layer with my Posca pen to give it a bit more definition. A few buttons from my button jar were tied with some floss and added as embellishments. To finish things off, a stamped sentiment was added.
