Dragonfly Smile

Hi there! Running a bit behind here, but it’s still Sunday, so I’m still “legal” with my inspiration post for the challenge at Ching-Chou Kuik’s Facebook group 🙂 This month, our theme is Make Your Own Background. There are so many cool techniques out there and this is a great time to try out a new one, or show us one of your old favorites 🙂 I saw this technique on a friend’s card, and thought I would try it….You ink up a piece of paper….I used 4 different blue Distress Inks for my card…..then die cut it…..and use the off cuts. Since I just looked at a picture, I did the “wing it” thing when trying to emulate it….I cut the background out twice, once with the inked paper, and once with a scrap piece. I used the actual die cut of the scrap piece, and attached it with some repositionable tape. Then I went to work filling in the spaces with the off cuts from the inked piece, using foam dots to pop them up and give them dimension.

This shows the dimension a bit better.

When I showed a picture to my friend and told her how I did it, she laughed….a lot. Apparently there’s a tutorial somewhere that is way easier than my fiddly method. I don’t have a link to it right now…..but will add it as soon as I find it 🙂 I colored up the beautiful Drifting Soul from Ching-Chou’s store with my Copics and then fussy cut it out.

I adhered it to the blank spot in the background, then added a small die cut “smile” sentiment. For a cute, balancing touch, I punched some tiny dragonflies, then added glitter to them, as well as the dragonfly in the image 🙂

Batter Up!

Hi there 🙂 Today I’m sharing my DT inspiration project for the current challenge at Creative Fingers Challenge Blog. We are thrilled to have Lemon Shortbread as our sponsor this time around. I had a card to make for a friend’s granddaughter’s birthday, and the young lady is an avid softball player. Well as luck had it, Lemon Shortbread has the perfect image!!! This sporty little chick is from the Baseball Teamies, which also comes with a boy image. I colored her with my Copics, then fussy cut her out. I found a simple baseball clipart image, and printed it off to make a baseball shaped card. I added some color to the stitching, then die cut the sentiment and the stars. I popped the girl on the card with some foam, positioning her so she helps to keep the card upright for display purposes 🙂

Golden Coral

Oh my, I’m running so behind this week!!! You know how things can be going along just duckily, then life hits…..gah!! My Sunday inspiration for the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook challenge has turned into a Monday inspiration!! The Facebook AND Blog challenge themes this month are Under the Sea. Ching-Chou has soooo many gorgeous mermaid and sea themed images in her Etsy Store that you’ll really be spoiled for choice!! I used one of my favorite images, Coral Addiction, found in this set.

I stuck to a very limited color scheme when I colored this up with my Copics, then added some sparkly highlights with a Spectrum Noir Gel pen.

I saw a picture of this card fold somewhere a while ago, and doodled it down on my handy desk blotter….but didn’t record where I saw it, or what it was called!! It’s really cool, because it folds flat for mailing, and you can use up some of your paper scraps 🙂 I had a piece of gold foil sea print paper for the background, which led me to cut some of the coral in gold mirror card, and the rest of the coral in white card stock that I highlighted with the gold sparkle pen I used in the image. I stamped a quick sentiment on a fishtail banner die cut, and added some pearls that I’d colored to match the color scheme. I’m really loving this card, and will definitely be using this fold again 🙂

Magical

Hello 🙂 I’m here to share some inspiration for the current challenge in the Sheepski Designs Facebook group. Our theme is always ATG with a Sheepski image, but there’s also an optional theme to help you out, if you need. This month’s optional theme is Black and White and ONE other color and/or Add a Sentiment. You can see that I did both 🙂

The image that I used is Seraphina’s Heart, and the color combo is my favorite….red, white and black 🙂 I colored the image with my Copics, then layered it over a striped background that I’d die cut a heart design into. I printed the sentiment on my computer, then cut it out with a fishtail banner die. I cut a few more banners and cut them to different sizes, then added some black Nuvo drops to finish it off.

Hello Sprites :)

As my project says….Hello!!! I’ve sat on my hands as long as I possibly can before sharing my inspiration for the new Aurora Wings Facebook group challenge!!! Yes, it’s back, and we can hardly wait to see the beautiful creations you make with Aurora Wings images. The challenges will be ATG, with numerous chances to win some more of Mitzi’s images. Check out the guidelines in the challenge album 🙂 You can shop for the images at either the Digi Shop, or Mitzi’s Etsy Store; there may be a few “surprises” in the file section of the Facebook group, as well 😉

I needed a new door decoration for my apartment door…..I found the wooden letters at Michael’s….on sale, yet…..and decided to dress them up with Sprites frolicking through a garden 🙂 I used Morning Glory Sprite (Digi Shop exclusive ); Daffodil Sprite (Digi Shop exclusive ); Dahlia Sprite (Digi Shop exclusive ); Cosmos Sprite (Digi Shop exclusive ); and Butterfly Sprite with Fancy Wings (Digi Shop and Etsy), and colored them all up with Copics before fussy cutting each of them out.

I played around with the letter arrangement until I settled on the above……but then had to find a suitable “something” to mount them on. I went into the craft room pit and came up with a canvas that I hadn’t painted on yet, and cut it in half, and put it together end to end with glue and white duct tape. I glued the painted letters on, then arranged some forest moss and parts of a greenery swag (not on sale!) around them. I went with a natural burlap bow to top this piece off with. I liked the size and texture of it with the other elements. Finally, I attached all the Sprites into their private little garden. After taking numerous pictures…..it was a bit tough to get things right with something this size…..I hung it on my door… 🙂

Hello Sunset

Mid June already, Father’s Day, and time for my Sunday inspiration for the challenge at the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group 🙂 Our theme (and the blog’s) this month is Under the Sea. There are many beautiful mermaid and sea themed digis at Ching-Chou’s Etsy store. While the image I used, Spring Night, found in this set, doesn’t actually show the beautiful mermaid under the sea, we all know that she was in the depths of the sea before she took a break to admire the sunset. I colored her with Copics, and used a white Posca for some highlights on the water.

Then, my brain went totally blank!!! I tried numerous ways to implement the idea that I had at one point of the card creation….to no avail. I did manage to destroy a bunch of paper, though!!! After realizing that some things just were not going to work this time, I decided on a fairly simple design; framing the image with a pair of die cuts and adding a simple sentiment to the bottom. For a bit of extra “something”, I trimmed around the die cuts to give the card an interesting shape 🙂

Birdie Banner

Oops!! I had this post scheduled for July!!!

Hi there 🙂 It’s already time for another ATG at Creative Fingers Challenges!! We have the one and only Bugaboo Stamps as a sponsor for this fortnight…..and there’s always an image that’s perfect for any occasion in Jodie’s store. I used an image that I’ve had for awhile….and can’t believe I haven’t used before!!! I added a birthday sentiment into Sign It – Celebration before printing it off and coloring it with my Copics. I also printed the image on some bright print paper, so I could layer the colored piece on top, and have all the squiggles and swirls intact 🙂 After trimming the bottom part of the image, I layered everything up, adding a blue mat and some white paint spatters before attaching it to the card base. Love how cheerful this CAS card turned out 🙂

Special Day

Hi there 🙂 Another Sunday has rolled around, and that means another inspiration project for the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group challenge. The challenge theme for June is “Under the Sea”. There are so many beautiful mermaid and sea themed images at Ching-Chou’s Etsy store, that you will really be spoiled for choice!! I chose to use See the Rainbow for my card. I had a friend with a special birthday coming up, so decided to make this for her. 🙂 I colored the image with Copics, using colors that the birthday girl loves. I added some white accents with a Posca pen.

I had some fun with die cuts for the background, using various seaweed and coral cuts in my collection. Before gluing them down, I used the negative space of one as a stencil, and sponged some silver ink coral on the dark blue background. Another die came out for the wave border at the bottom of the card. I used a wavy sentiment stamp, in keeping with the ocean theme. After gluing everything in place, I added a pink die cut seahorse and a whole bunch of Liquid pearl dots 🙂

A pink mat balances everything off to finish the card 🙂

Jump For Joy

Well, I’m almost caught up after the busiest couple of weeks that I can remember 🙂 This card is an inspiration project for our current ATG challenge at Creative Fingers. As always, we have a wonderful sponsor, and this time it’s Some Odd Girl, who provided the DT with images to create with. I chose Happy Goat to use on my project, and colored him up with my Copics before fussy cutting him out.

As soon as I saw this little guy, I knew I wanted to put him on an action wobbler, so he could jump around, like happy goats do 🙂 I ran to my local scrapbook store to grab a package of wobblers, but she was sold out!!! I must have looked a bit panicked, because the owner started rummaging in her own stash to see if she had a spare one!!! Sadly, she didn’t, but she gave me some quick directions on how to make my own. Talk about service!! After I had the goat all ready to jump around, I started die cutting , to make a scene to mount him on. After everything was done, I got the little guy on, and he’s been jumping for joy ever since 🙂 I just cannot seem to get the video to work, so you gotta believe me, lol.

Cheers!

Hi there! I was SO thrilled and honored to be picked as a Top 3 in Mo’s Digital Pencil challenge, as part of the distinction was to be asked to be a Guest Designer for an upcoming challenge. 🙂 Mo’s images were among the first digital stamps that I fell in love with, and some of the only ones that I use over and over and over again, so I was super excited!!! The challenge theme is ATG with an option of “For the Guys”- with a Mo image. I know that many find masculine cards difficult, but there are so many Mo images that are PERFECT for guys of any age….check them out!!! 🙂 I used this endearing Dwarf…(Dwarf 7, to be precise….he’s got a few cute friends 😉 lol). I colored him with my Copics and trimmed the opposite corners of the image so they were rounded.

I forgot to pick out paper before coloring him (a new habit that I’ve been trying to establish….but not quite a habit yet!), so had to rummage around my papers….good thing I have enough to last for about 52 lifetimes, I can find prints that I like….barely….hehehe. I cut pieces and mats for said pieces and arranged and rearranged them until I was happy with the layout. I really don’t like to used a ton of embellishments on a card with an amazing image, so I kept things rather simple. I cut the buntings with Little B dies, and the simple sentiment was punched….yes, I still have ALL my punches!!! The card needed a little something else, so I grabbed some baubles and tinted them a coordinating color with my Copics. Then, cuz I can’t leave well enough alone, I doodled around some of the edges 🙂 I hope you can check out the challenge, and share some Mo works with us…..warning, once you start with these images, it’s hard to quit!!!

I’d like to enter the following challenges with this card:

Cute Card Thursday – #584 Masculine

As You Like It Challenge – His or Hers……I love making both, and seem to make more “her” cards, but I love love the challenge of making a masculine card!!! I find I have to be more inventive with embellishments and style, and I love a good challenge 🙂
